8 Week Pregnancy Yoga Course

9th October - 27th November 1-3pm

Free taster session 2nd October 1-3pm

The Wellness Barn, Ingatestone

This 8 week (16 hour) course is designed and run by Wendy, mother of two and pregnant with baby number three. Wendy has been teaching and facilitating pregnancy yoga classes, workshops and 121’s since 2018 as a specialism after completing her first teacher training in 2011.

Through her own experience of attending pregnancy yoga classes, practicing pregnancy specific Yoga Nidra, Visualisation and Breathing exercises during pregnancy and beyond - Wendy was inspired to pursue her deep respect and gratitude for her own experience, to share with others. Wendy’s pregnancy specific yoga journey began in 2015, and has been expansive across many different approaches, and styles, and continues right up to this very day with a unique combination of experiential knowledge, dedicated learning and wisdom.

The course is designed to offer a broad range of information, methods and practices to promote comfort during pregnancy, reduce anxiety and manage sensations. Each session aims to connect with this powerful stage of life, embody movement and breath, and awaken personal wisdom and intuitive knowing with a sense of trust. The recordings of the movement and relaxation parts of each week will be available after the course for 12 months. Recordings will not include group discussions, personal sharing or any other person than Wendy.

This 8 week immersion course will include daily email reminders and inspirations of the practices learnt in the previous classes, to help integrate the learning into your real lives. Phillippa Lally, a health psychology researcher at UCL published a study in the European Journal of Social Psychology which researched how long it actually takes to form a habit. Her research found it takes anywhere between 2 months and 8 months to build a new habit, although this can vary widely depending on the person. Building healthy habits and regular time for relaxation techniques, breathing exercise and movement during your pregnancy sets the tone for a more centred and positive experience as well as the foundation for a good recovery. With access to plenty of tools to use not just during your pregnancy but also in the months afterwards. Making small incremental improvements in order to give time and attention to yourself and your baby, using time between classes to embrace the practices, or even just be reminded of them during our busy lives is part of what this immersion course has to offer.

Dr Gowri Motha (UK Obstetrician) writes: “Public health research has revealed that reduction of stress in Pregnancy not only improves neurodevelopment of babies in the womb but also in the immediate neonatal months in early childhood. The practice of Yoga during pregnancy has now received recognition as being able to positively enhance the mental and emotional health of our future generations”.
